Fundación Oncology Network (FON) is a newly organized professional association interested in stimulating clinical research in oncology. The establishment of FON under Fundación de Investigación (FDI) intends to expand the oncology services and research in Oncology at FDI. FDI is already known as a clinical research center, with state-of-the-art facilities and experienced personnel, well established as a leading research and treatment facility for liver diseases. Since 2010, FDI has been expanding into other therapeutic areas and, so far, conducted successfully over 15 clinical trials in oncology. To strengthen further our interest in clinical research, we have recently reached an agreement with the Hematology and Oncology Section at the UPR School of Medicine to collaborate in the conduction of clinical trials at both institutions.
In addition, FON is currently in negotiations with medical insurance companies to become recognized as a preferred provider for the comprehensive management of patients with a diagnosis of cancer. Therefore, these negotiations would also include services rendered by non-oncologist physicians treating cancer patients, such as surgeons, pathologists, radiotherapists, radiologists, and so forth. FDI is currently extending an invitation to all physicians involved in the management of cancer patients to become members of "FON". As members this
credentials and contact information will establish a baseline network for communication and data sharing. In addition we are in the process of procuring unique benefits for our members, such as access to specialized pharmacies, medical education, staff training, and more.
Furthermore, FDI is very pleased to announce our most recent achievement. FON has been accepted as a main member of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, a national clinical trials network sponsored by the National Cancer Institute that consists of nearly 10,000 cancer specialists at hospitals, medical centers, and community clinics across the United States and Canada. The Alliance is dedicated to developing and conducting clinical trials with promising new cancer therapies, and utilizes the best science to develop optimal treatment and prevention strategies for cancer, as well as researching methods to alleviate side effects of cancer and cancer treatments. FON will now have access to multiple clinical trials with emphasis in Breast, GI, GU, Leukemia, Lymphoma, Neuro-Oncology, Respiratory, Cancer Control, Experimental Therapeutics and Transplant Medicine.
